A dear friend of many years grew up in Dodge City, so this novel was even more delightful...I greatly enjoyed Ms. Russell's wonderful characterizations, detail and beautiful writing. It's a definite "page turner." My only preference would be perhaps a bit less of some profanity in dialogue, but I'm sure she was striving for realism. I've recommended to my Dodge City friend, and I'm on now to her other novels. :)

I am amazed at how completely Mary Russell can get you inside the head of even the most minor character. This book is an emotional roller-coaster, from joy to sorrow and everything in between. It reads as easily as any contemporary novel yet it has a flavor of the 19th century that is so convincing you want to brush the dust off your jeans and get out of the way of an oncoming horse. Amazing on every level.
