| There's a little bit of John in all of us... | September 09, 2010 |

Since I read this book, I can't stop thinking about it. It's amazing. The main character, John, knows his own weaknesses but knows how to keep himself in check. It's interesting how he understands others and can see the lack of certain qualities in himself. Loved it!

| Great Writing | July 16, 2011 |

This book surprised me. I'm not into horror at all and only started reading this because I was told Dan Wells was a good writer. I wanted to see if good writing could compensate for what I was told was a teen horror novel. No compensation was needed. I wouldn't consider this horror at all. And yes, the writing is excellent. It is very concise and honest. The main character is troubled and different in many ways, but also very similar to the average person. There was only one part that I felt was disturbing and unnecessary in the extent that it was written -and it was not a scary part.

| Killer book | July 12, 2010 |

This is easily one of the most engrossing novels I have ever read. John Cleaver makes a very unique protagonist, being both empathetic and creepy. Once I passed the 1/3 point of the book, I literally wasn't able to set it down until I read the entire thing. Dan Wells can write a solid book--there really isn't anything bad I can say about it.
I recommend it to anyone except the faint of heart. The protagonist works at a mortuary, and there are plenty of descriptions of corpses and whatnot.
