| Good, but way too Graphic | June 24, 2009 |
| By: eellsworth | Provo, Utah (US) | |
Marcus, or w1n5t0n as he's known on the internet, is only 17 years old, but a master hacker. He's infiltrated his school's surveillance system and knows how to manipulate it. When a terrorists attack the Bay Bridge, the Department of Homeland Security increases it's surveillance on the entire city, and takes Marcus captive. After he is released, he takes on destroying DHS as a personal mission.
I have to say that this book was one of the biggest disappointments I've had in a long time. I loved about half the story. The means Marcus uses to hack the system are absolutely genius and innovative. Also, the methods used by DHS and the police are eerily realistic. It's very apparent that this book was well-researched and thought out. Sometimes the technical descriptions were a little heavy, but I thought they were useful to explaining the story.
Here's what I didn't like. I felt like there was just too much sex and references to sex in this book. If that's something you're comfortable with, that's fine, but it seemed just to overwhelm the story at times. I felt like it was a little too mature for a YA audience. I don't mind romance in a book, but there were passages that were just too graphic.

| Prophetic to the nth Degree | March 13, 2009 |
| By: DrGonzo | Phoenix, Arizona (US) | |
Cory Doctorow takes the political and social climate of today, turns it into the worst case scenario, and then makes you believe that there's still hope. While I shudder at the thought of the events in this book coming to pass in real life, it's good to know that people still believe in what it means to be free, both online and in meatspace.

| Little Brother | February 08, 2009 |

Fast paced and exciting, Little Brother is a wonderful book about techno-geek rebellion, and a worthy "little brother" to Orwell's 1984. Although I am not a gamer and generally dislike teen fiction, I highly recommend this not only to teenagers, but to older readers as well.

| Hacking Teen on the Loose | September 27, 2008 |

An excellent story evolving around a terrorist attack in San Franciso, where 17 year old Marcus Yallow is innocent but is picked up along with his three other friends, and interrogated for days mercilessly by th DHS(Dept. of Homeland Security). After he is released, he knows he's a 'marked man.' Meanwhile, just within a course of a week, San Francisco has become a police state, with over the top security measures everywhere.
With the help of his tech-savvy knowledge, a hacked games console and a wireless encrypted internet connection, Marcus plans to bring down the people who tortured him on his own home soil and to bring back his friend Darryl, who hadn't been released when Marcus and his other two friends had been picked up for interrogation.
This novel is a superb piece of work-though having some knowledge on internet security terms may help. It's a page turner set in the not-too-far-off future.
