On my next trip to Colorado I am visiting 'The Bride's House' in Georgetown. It is a real house built in the 1880s and the inspiration for Sandra Dallas' fairy talk about strong women surviving in tough times. Their lives don't always go according to plan and there are hidden secrets each generation must learn. PLUS a surprise ending makes the book hard to put dons.

 Historical romanceJune 03, 2011

Bride’s House is a Victorian home blossoming in lust and love. Lilacs were planted about the Bride’s House and the sensual aroma permeated the seasons of love pushed along by the mountain breeze. Not one but 3 brides would claim the home and the secrets buried within its walls, literally. Sex is not unbridled, but unBRIDEd, through the generations with not so typical consequences. “Were they wrongs? Or were they only secrets?” Top on the praises of this book is characters’ realistic portrayal. Even through 3 generations of women, the character list is kept rather small, but the development of each gives the reader fluctuation between loving and loathing throughout the story. Even the protagonist—which changes through the generations and time-span—moves the reader to and fro. The generations begin as a romantic Western in a Colorado mining town. That first “Part I Nealie” is something related to historic romance. “Part II Pearl” and “Part III Susan” come off as simple romance, but do have some historic notations due to the time encapsulated in their story portion. Bride’s House is adult in content, not risqué, but not for the Puritan. A good leisure read that pulls 3 generation of girls of the Bride’s House into a neat satisfying package, or should that be strong box, in the end.
